Where does the money for a payment come from?

Each time you pay a bill, you pick where the money comes from: your Cleo Pay balance or your linked bank. Money from your balance goes straight to the vendor. Money from your linked bank takes two steps: Cleo Pay pulls it from your bank first, then sends it to the vendor. That's why the balance is faster.

Your linked bank is the one marked Pays from in Settings, then Bank Accounts. Business days don't include weekends or bank holidays. For same-day ACH, see How long do Cleo Pay payments take?

Choosing a source

In the payment window, open the list under Bank Account and pick Cleo Pay balance or your bank. The balance option shows how much you have available.

Your balance has to cover the whole payment. If it doesn't, the balance option shows how much you're short and can't be picked. Choose your linked bank instead, or add money to your balance first.

If no bank is linked yet, the list says "No bank is linked yet, so payments can only come from your Cleo Pay balance." Click Link a bank to pay from it to connect one.

Held payments come from your bank

If the vendor hasn't accepted your invitation or added a bank account yet, the payment is held. Held payments always come from your linked bank, so the balance isn't offered. The money waits in your Cleo Pay balance until the vendor is ready, then goes out on its own.

In a bulk payment, a held bill that was set to use the balance moves to your linked bank and shows "(held payment)".

Which should I use?

Use your balance when it has enough in it and you want the vendor paid sooner. Use your linked bank when you want to schedule the payment, when the vendor isn't set up yet, or when your balance is too low.

If a payment came from the wrong place or the amount looks wrong, email support@cleo-pay.com with the vendor name, the amount and the date you paid.
