If you add a bank by typing its routing and account numbers, Cleo Pay sends small deposits to that account to prove it's yours. They arrive in 1 to 2 business days. Then you enter what you see on your statement in Settings, then Bank Accounts, and the bank becomes the one you pay from.
If you'd rather skip the wait, connect the bank by signing in to it instead. See How to connect your bank account.
Add the bank
You need to be an admin, and your business needs to be verified.
- Go to Settings, then Bank Accounts, and click Add bank account.
- Click Enter bank details.
- Enter the Routing number and Account number. You can add a Name so you can tell your accounts apart.
- Under Account holder, pick Business or Individual, depending on whose name the account is in. The wrong choice makes the bank return the debit.
- Read the ACH debit authorization and tick I authorize the debits described above.
- Click Add account and send micro-deposits.
You'll see "Bank account added. Micro-deposits are on the way."
If the button only says Add account, your business isn't cleared for bank debits yet. The bank is added as a place to receive payments, but no micro-deposits are sent and it can't pay from Cleo Pay yet.
What to look for
Stripe picks one of two checks for each account. The bank's row in the list tells you which one.
| Check | What you'll see on your statement | What you enter |
|---|---|---|
| Code | One $0.01 deposit. Its description has a six-character code that starts with SM. | The code |
| Amounts | Two small deposits | Both amounts, in cents |
Enter the details
- Go to Settings, then Bank Accounts.
- Click the three-dot menu on the bank's row and choose Enter the micro-deposit details.
- Enter the Statement code, or the two amounts in Deposit 1 and Deposit 2. If your statement shows the other kind, click My statement shows two deposits instead or My statement shows a code instead.
- Click Verify account.
You'll see "Account verified. You can now fund payments from it." The bank is now marked Pays from.
You get 10 tries for a code and 3 tries for the amounts. The window shows how many are left.
If it doesn't work
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| "That code does not match the one on your bank statement. Check the six-character code beginning with SM and try again." | Check the code on the $0.01 deposit and enter it again. |
| "Those amounts do not match the deposits we sent. Check your bank statement and try again." | Check both amounts and enter them again. |
| "Enter each deposit as it appears on your statement, in cents, without a dollar sign." | For $0.32, enter 32. |
| "Too many incorrect attempts. Please start a new verification for this account." | Connect the bank by signing in instead (see below). |
| "This verification expired before it was confirmed. Please start a new one." | Connect the bank by signing in instead (see below). |
| "The deposits could not be sent to this account. Check the account and routing numbers and try again." | The numbers are probably wrong. Check them with your bank. |
When a check fails for good, the bank's row shows why. Open the row's three-dot menu and choose Connect this bank to pay from, then sign in to your bank.
If you're still stuck, email support@cleo-pay.com with your bank's name, the last four digits of the account and the message you saw.
